3 Steps to Prepare for Bathroom Remodeling

Remodeling a bathroom isn’t as involved as redoing your kitchen, for example, but it’s still a big enough project that you want to prepare adequately. You want to be happy with your new bathroom at the end of the project, but you don’t want the remodeling process to be a nightmare. Luckily, you have the team at Cabinet Depot to help you out. We’re old hands at these kinds of remodeling projects, so we’re sharing some of our hard-earned wisdom with you.

Here are three basic steps to make bathroom remodeling a breeze from start to finish.

Make Clear Plans

One of the easiest ways to turn a bathroom remodel into a stressful situation is to fail to make clear plans. The first thing to do is set your budget. The costs of materials and labor can add up quickly, so setting a budget and sticking to it will relieve a lot of stress. Once you know how much money you are willing to spend, you can start planning your design. With a budget and a clear vision for your remodel, you can make choices that will match your vision and your budget and avoid having to make changes and sacrifices halfway through.

Choose Materials and Fixtures

With your budget and your design in place, you are ready to start choosing your materials and fixtures. Choose your cabinets, flooring materials, countertops, sink and bath fixtures, and everything else on your list. Pay attention to the price tags of everything you choose and decide what areas you are willing to compromise on versus the areas where you won’t budge.

Prepare Your Home

The last thing to do before you start the remodeling process is to prepare your home. You’ll be down a bathroom for the duration of the remodel, so get everyone in your family set up in another bathroom. If you are remodeling your only bathroom with a bath or shower, get in touch with family or friends to stay at their place or borrow their bathroom while yours is out of commission. Even if you have another bathroom you can use, you still need to prepare your home for dust and noise. Clear the space contractors and workmen will have to walk through and move anything that could be damaged well out of the way.
